Scripture Reading: Daniel 9:24-27, Zechariah 9:9-12, Luke 19:28-44
Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and remembers the time Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey in fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9, which reads, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey."
When Jesus officially presented Himself to Israel as her Messiah, excited crowds of people waved palm branches (a symbol of peace and triumph) and shouted, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” (Mark 11:9). The word "hosanna" means, "Save us now!"
On Palm Sunday, King Jesus entered the Holy City, Jerusalem, to fulfill prophecy, offer peace, show compassion, and save sinners.
