Scripture Reading: John 13:1-38

The Last Supper was a Passover meal Jesus shared with His disciples in the Upper Room on the night before His crucification (John 13-17). Maundy Thursday traditionally commemorates the time Jesus washed His disciples' feet before the meal as an example of love and humility.

The word “maundy” comes from the English word “mandate.” John 13:34 records the specific mandate or command Jesus gave in the Upper Room: “A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
